On June 23, 2012 the Stone Mountain Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will be hosting a joint health fair with the Tau Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. May 16th, 2012Brother Carl Bowen Successfully Completes Half Marathon
April 25th, 2012Carl Bowen is a Spring 2009 initiate of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter. This past March, Brother Bowen successfully completed a half marathon (13.1 miles) as part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series that features marathons in various cities across the nation. This particular race took place in New York City, where Brother Bowen finished the race in 2:03:44, which averages out at 9:37 per mile. Brother Bowen trained hard for the endeavor and has been inspired beyond measure from this accomplishment. His advice is to finish strong today, because tomorrow you won’t remember the trials that led you to success. You will only remember the achievement!




Brother Robinson leads Youth Symphony in African-American History Concert
April 25th, 2012Brother David Robinson, a long time member of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter is the founder and director of a youth symphony known as “Still Waters Youth Sinfo-Nia” of Metropolitan Atlanta. On Sunday, March 11, Brother Robinson directed the group in an African American History concert that paid special tribute to Soul Train’s Don Cornelius, singer Etta James, and singer Whitney Houston. The event was held at the Community Achievement Center, located in Decatur. In addition, the Youth Sinfo-Nia was recently filmed in a music video by rappers Wale and Curren$y.

Stone Mountain Alumni participates in Career Fair
April 25th, 2012On Thursday, March 8, the Brothers of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter participated in the annual College Fair Day, located at the Arabian Mountain High School in Lithonia, GA. The event organized by the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) and featured representatives from 25 colleges and universities. The brothers provided a strong Kappa presence and spoke with students about the importance of going to college and continuing their educations. Brother Marshall Troup Chaired the event.
Stone Mountain Alumni participates in Youth Empowerment Summit
April 25th, 2012On Saturday, March 24, the Brothers of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter participated in the annual DeKalb Youth Empowerment Summit, which took place at E.L. Bouie Elementary School. The event promoted strategies on ways to invest in today’s youth, keep them engaged, and demonstrate the value of healthy living with exercise and nutrition. The chapters Kappa Leaguers also participated in the event, which featured other numerous community organizations with various contributing roles. Three brothers from the chapter served on a panel for the event to judge high school stepping and dance teams. Finally, 5 brothers from the chapter performed a brief step exhibition for the students and parents to enjoy.
Stone Mountain Alumni participates in 2012 Kappa League Conference
April 25th, 2012This past February, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter traveled with 17 Kappa Leaguers to Greenville, SC to participate in the annual Kappa League Conference. The conference was hosted by the Southeastern Province Guide Right Committee, led by Brother Oscar Neely. At the conference, the young gentlemen attended workshops on gangs, bullying, violence prevention, and personal grooming. They also were able to meet Grand Polemarch Randy Bates, who spoke about positive and negative peer pressure. Brothers Michael Tuma and Rasheen Booker chaired the event for the chapter. Stone Mountain Alumni Hosts Kappa League Induction Ceremony
April 25th, 2012On Tuesday, March 6, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter inducted 18 young men into the chapter’s Kappa League program at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center. The program was planned and organized by previous inductees of the Kappa League program, who still remain active in it today. One Kappa Leaguer served as the master of ceremonies, and Brother Charlton Bivins, who serves as the Assistant Commander of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, served as the keynote speaker. Chapter Polemarch Marshall Troup also spoke to parents and gave closing remarks. Brother Michael Tuma serves as Kappa League director for the chapter.




Stone Mountain Alumni Hosts Male Empowerment Seminar
February 24th, 2012On Friday, February 10, the Brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni hosted a male empowerment seminar at Deerwood Elementary School in Atlanta. The event was launched in an attempt to provide mentoring and guidance to males who were in dire need of community support. During the event, a table discussion was held where groups of boys were able to ask questions to the brothers about various topics that included achievement, college life, hygiene, behavior, respecting girls, gangs, and more. Next, the brothers ate lunch with the boys and a keynote speaker addressed the group. The Principal of the school was very supportive of the initiative, and provided community service certificates and letters of appreciation to all who participated. Brother Carnell Lee, at Fall 2011 initiate chaired the event.




Stone Mountain Alumni Participates in NPHC “Mix and Mingle” Event
February 24th, 2012On February 3, 2012 the Brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni chapter participated in a “Mix and Mingle” event that was held at Café Circa on behalf of the NPHC of DeKalb County. The event featured participation from chapters of all Divine 9 organizations. Proceeds from the event were donated to Medshare, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving healthcare and providing medical supplies and equipment to those in need. Brother Quinton Robinson chaired the event.

On Saturday, January 28, 2012 the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter participated in the Helen Ruffin reading bowl, which is sponsored by the NPHC of DeKalb County. Brother Quinton Robinson currently serves as President of the NPHC, and facilitated the chapter’s involvement. The event featured students reading books and then competing in competitive games to answer questions based upon the Georgia Children’s Book Award list. Students from grades four through eight participated in the event.
