Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Hosts Trash Cleanup Event
On Saturday, November 5, 2011 the brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter gathered at the MARTA station parking lot on the corner of Mall Parkway and Evans Mill Road to do a walking “trash cleanup” along the streets and public areas surrounding Stonecrest. DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May supported the event, along with several local business owners.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Delivers Thanksgiving Baskets
On Saturday, November 19, 2011 the brothers of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter delivered Thanksgiving baskets to 30 needy families in the Stone Mountain and Lithonia communities. The brothers met at Stoneview Elementary School in Lithonia to assemble the baskets, which included Turkeys and an assortment of canned goods and nonperishable foods. Once the baskets were assembled, some selected families arrived to pick up their baskets at the school. The brothers personally delivered a majority of the other baskets to the homes of selected families. The basket recipients felt truly blessed and thankful for the assistance that the men of Kappa Alpha Psi provided to their families during this challenging time in their lives. Brother Derek Favors, a Spring 2001 initiate, chaired the Thanksgiving Baskets drive. Videos from the event can be found on the chapter’s Youtube Channel.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni hosts “Sunday Night Kap” Pre-Labor Day Event
On Sunday, September 4, 2011 the Brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter held a classy pre-labor day event at Harlem Nights, in Atlanta. The event was designed to kick off the new fraternal year and also serve as a reclamation tool to bring more brothers into the fold. The event was well attended and received by brothers and guests.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni attends NPHC Annual Convention and Community Service
In October 2011, the brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni attended the National Pan Hellenic Council’s annual convention that was held in Atlanta. During the convention, a community service event was held to focus on childhood obesity and took place at the Hill Street Boys and Girls Club, which has 175 children. The event’s breakout sessions were impactful and enjoyed by all who attended.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter Hosts Pre-Thanksgiving Diamond Thursday Event
On Thursday, November 17, 2011 the brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni held a Pre-Thanksgiving Diamond Thursday event at the Indigo Bar and Lounge on Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta. The event served as a reclamation tool to recruit inactive brothers, and attendees brought canned goods for the chapter’s upcoming Thanksgiving baskets initiative. The event was chaired by Brother Ed Platenburg.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Hosts Kappa League College Tour
On Friday, October 28th, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter traveled with their Kappa Leaguers to Savannah, GA for the purpose of visiting Savannah State University and Savannah College Of Art And Design. The Kappa Leaguers were able to tour Savannah State University and interact with the Gamma Chi Chapter during the school’s homecoming festivities. Brothers welcomed the young men while reminding them the importance of strengthening their grades to remain college bound. The Kappa Leaguers also toured Savannah College of Art and Design and enjoyed a memorable experience. The tour was chaired by Brother Michael Tuma and Brother Rasheen Booker.
Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Participates in Gourmet Gents Event
The Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter recently competed in a Gourmet Gents all male chef competition hosted by the 100 Black Women of Atlanta. The event is an annual fundraiser that calls for volunteers to contribute their time and culinary skills to raise money for community service efforts. Hailed as the premier gents’ cook-off in Atlanta, the event draws more than 500 people annually. This is the 3rd year that the chapter has participated in the event, taking home 5 awards in total. Awards included 1st Place: most members participating, Paras Griffin – 1st place in the side dish category for Spicy Collards, Chad Burroughs – 1st Place in Best Presentation, Napoleon Meadors – 2nd Place in Deserts for Mini Cheesecakes, and Carl Anderson – 2nd Place in Appetizers for Spicy Chilli. The event was Chaired by Past Polemarch Paras Griffin.
Brother Korey Felder, a Fall 2011 initiate of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter, is the CEO of the Hittsquad Entertainment Company in Atlanta, GA. His organization recently spent the weekend building a new children’s playground for the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Greater Atlanta. The event was supported by a large number of volunteers, and was done in partnership with KaBoom and LexusNexus.

Brother DuCree featured as key photographer at MLK Memorial Dedication Ceremony
Brother Richard DuCree, a 2004 initiate of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Chapter, was asked to serve as the primary photographer on hand during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication ceremony in Washington, D.C. The event took place this past October and was attended by countless dignitaries, including UN Ambassador Andrew Young, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Joseph Lowry, and more. Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumni Hosts Diamond Thursday “Triple Threat”
On Thursday, December 15, 2011 the brothers of Stone Mountain-Lithonia alumni held a Diamond Thursday “Triple Threat” event at the Indigo Bar and Lounge on Edgewood Avenue in Atlanta. During the event, they collected canned goods and unwrapped toys for their upcoming Christmas Guide Right initiatives. In addition, they celebrated the Chapter’s upcoming anniversary and officially welcomed their Fall 2011 Neophytes into the bond.
